Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has expressed regret over the ban on Indian actor Aamir Khan’s film Dangal.
Recently, Punjab’s Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb appeared as a guest on comedian and host Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, where she spoke on various topics.
During the interview, the host asked her, “What is one compromise you feel you shouldn’t have made?”
Responding to the question, the minister said, “The ban on the film Dangal should not have been imposed.”
Seeking clarification, the host followed up with another question: “But that’s an old decision — why was it banned back then?”
Marriyum explained, “I hadn’t seen the film at the time. I had just taken office as Information Minister that very day. In a meeting with the censor board, certain reasons were presented for banning the film, and based on those, the ban was enforced.”
She further added, “Besides, Indian films were already banned at the time, Censor Board was very strict towards Indian movies. So, the decision was made accordingly.”
Marriyum went on to say that when she finally watched Dangal a year and a half later, she realized the film should not have been banned. “I still regret that decision,” she admitted.
Notably, earlier Bollywood star Amir Khan revealed that his film Dangal was banned in Pakistan for showing off Indian flag in the last scene of the film. “When I came to know that the film is banned by Pakistani censor board for representing Indian flag in last scene of film, I immediately decided that the film would not release in Pakistan,” Amir revealed.
