Politics and attorney Sher Afzal Marwat recently discussed how, against the wishes of his family, he declined to marry a second woman in order to have a son in an interview with host Nadir Ali.
He started, “My wife told me I should marry again in 2007.” We had been married for around five or six years at the time, and my son was still unborn. That was when my father was still living, and it was customary [in our family] to take on a second wife in order to have a son.”
But Marwat stated that he was forced to inform his wife that he could not follow through with the plan after giving it some thought. After giving it some thinking, he told her that he couldn’t subject her to such suffering.
In a demonstration of his support for women, Marwat gave an explanation of his non traditional choice within his conventional household. “I don’t think you should ever do that to a woman,” my wife said, “but she was really serious when she suggested I seek a second wife [who could bear me a son].”
Marwat went on to say that it would be incredibly cruel to do such an act towards a woman who had given up everything to be with her spouse and his family.
“To have a child, I couldn’t bring in another woman into our lives,” he said. A lady has one life, just like everyone else. She has essentially destroyed everything in her life in order to begin anew with you.
