Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced ‘Insulin Card’ on Tuesday in Lahore, an initiative for kids with Type-I congenital diabetes, ensuring free insulin delivery at their doorstep.
She started the program by going to children’s homes with Pakistan Post riders to deliver the cards.
She delivered the cards to Zainab Waheed and Zain Shahzad in Jamil Town, as well as to Wasay Adnan in Sabzazar, according to a statement.
Additionally, the chief minister gave the patients packs of needles, glucometer strips, and insulin.
Five-year-old Wasay, the youngest of three siblings, was born with diabetes. In order to guarantee Zain’s eye examination and care, the chief minister also issued orders.
A large crowd gathered on the streets and rooftops upon her arrival. At the girls’ request, the CM also snapped selfies with them.
“I can understand the pain and anxiety of children suffering from diabetes,” she remarked, speaking to the beneficiaries’ families.
The free insulin program for young children was started in response to the real needs of the children and the impoverished parents.
“The government will reach out to every child who cannot afford to buy medicine or insulin under the ‘Sehatmand Punjab’ vision.”
She emphasized that the Punjab government places a strong priority on the health of its children.
Children are receiving insulin and, for the first time, glucometers and test strips.
Since children are the country’s bright future, every resource is being made available to them. There is serious concern about the quick spread of diabetes among children.
In a briefing on the scheme, the chief minister was told that 1,500 children will receive insulin at their homes in the first phase.
Pakistan Post riders will use an app to scan the Insulin Card for verification. Insulin will be given to patients following the scan.
