Criticism has been directed at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her recent decision to provide McDonald’s burgers to school children during her visit to Murree.
This action has ignited a firestorm of backlash against the fast-food chain due to perceived ties to Israel amidst the Gaza conflict.
A video shared by Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan showed students indulging in McDonald’s meals in their Murree classroom, while a circulated photo depicted Nawaz posing with one of the students.
Ahmad Khan condemned the distribution of McDonald’s burgers, deeming it grossly insensitive to the Muslim community and akin to rubbing salt in their wounds.
He called for Nawaz to issue a public apology for her actions, particularly given the ongoing international campaigns targeting corporations with alleged ties to Israel.
McDonald’s Pakistan has faced scrutiny in recent months following reports of its Israeli counterpart’s support for the Israeli army amid the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
