Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab mentioned on Sunday that talks with K-Electric are being held to exempt hospitals from city’s worsening electricity outages.
“To obtain a load-shedding exemption line for hospitals, we are in constant communication with K-Electric in conjunction with the health department,” Wahab stated.
In order to lessen future power outages, “work has also been accelerated on solarization projects,” he continued.
Power outages that have lasted for hours have had a serious negative influence on hospital operations and daily life in Karachi, leaving patients at risk during the hot summer months.
Wahab emphasized that a steady supply of electricity was “essential” for hospitals and that the installation of solar systems is being actively sought as an alternative energy source.
The NICU at Sobhraj Hospital was officially opened by Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, who stated that the new facility would greatly improve infant care.
“Newborns from Sobhraj will no longer need to be transferred to Jinnah or Civil Hospitals,” she stated.
“The facility can treat premature babies as small as 600 grams because it has 25 incubators and ventilators,” she continued.
She added that in order to lower infant death rates, particularly for low-birth-weight neonates, new NICUs are also being built in Korangi, Azam Basti, and Jamshoro.
Former caretaker health minister Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz, SICHCN Executive Director Dr. Jamal Raza, and Sindh Health Secretary Rehan Baloch attended the ceremony.
