Mobile phone and internet facilities were blocked on Saturday across different cities of the country as part of increased security arrangements for the 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The 9th of Muharram, commemorated to mark the greatest sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, is being celebrated with appropriate solemnity and respect across the country today.
Mobile and internet services have been shut down in Quetta, Sukkur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kohat, and other towns. The move is to maintain public safety in the face of processions and religious gatherings. The services will continue to be off until 8:00 PM, officials say.
Furthermore, massive security measures have been taken to avoid any unfortunate event.
As per instructions from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, a mobile control room has been deployed for the very first time in Islamabad under the Ashura security plan. The control room can operate without a mobile network, providing round-the-clock monitoring and coordination.
Meanwhile, In a joint intelligence-based operation, police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) effectively eliminated three terrorists of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Tipu Group in Lakki Marwat.
The operation was conducted in a far-flung village, where a fierce gun battle raged between the security forces and the militants. During the exchange of fire, three terrorists were martyred.
One of the terrorists was recognized as Wasim Ullah, alias Umar Khattab. The remaining two were known as Qudrat Ullah alias Abu Bakr and Hijrat Ullah alias Hijrat, as per CTD officials.
