In a conversation with Donald Trump on Tuesday, Narendra Modi claimed that the India-Pakistan ceasefire was facilitated by bilateral military discussions, not U.S. mediation, said India’s senior diplomat.
Earlier, Trump claimed last month that the U.S.-mediated ceasefire negotiations between the nuclear-armed neighbors of South Asia resulted in an end to hostilities after he urged the nations to prioritize trade over war.
According to a press release from Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, “PM Modi made it very evident to President Trump that during this time, there was no discussion at all on topics such as the trade agreement between India and the United States or the U.S. mediation between India and Pakistan.”
“On Pakistan’s insistence and through the military channels already in place, direct talks to stop military action took place between India and Pakistan. India has never and will never accept mediation, Prime Minister Modi emphasized.
According to Misri, the two leaders spoke on the phone at Trump’s request during the G7 summit in Canada, which Modi was a guest at. The call went on for thirty-five minutes.
