The budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2025–2026 has been approved by the National Assembly.
In the current National Assembly session, which is being chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Finance Bill 2025 was approved by a majority vote.
The National Assembly session was postponed until tomorrow at 11 a.m. following the Finance Bill’s approval.
Throughout the session, all of the opposition’s cut motions were denied, but a majority vote granted clause-wise approval.
Prior to this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a federal cabinet meeting where the Finance Bill 2025–2026 was approved with modifications.
Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, was also in the National Assembly when the budget was being voted on clause by clause.
The National Assembly was presented with a proposed amendment to the Salaries and Allowances Act. Muhammad Aurangzeb, the minister of finance, stated his support for the suggested change.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi went to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s seat during the vote counting, shook his hand, and spoke with him briefly.
The finance minister, the interior minister, the law minister, and Rana Sanaullah stayed in the House during the voting process.
The fact that only elected MNAs are able to vote should not be overlooked.
The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Rs14,131 billion tax revenue targets for the next fiscal year 2025–2026 was also approved. Furthermore, Rs5,147 billion has been set as the non-tax revenue target.
The provinces will receive Rs8,206 billion from the divisible pool of revenues under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
