The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning over the next 24 hours.
According to an NDMA spokesperson, Islamabad and Rawalpindi are expected to experience strong winds, heavy rainfall, thunder, and lightning.
Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, and the Neelum Valley are also likely to experience rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
Heavy rainfall is also anticipated in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, according to the NDMA.
Heavy showers are also anticipated in Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Jacobabad, and Mirpurkhas.
For Swat, Dir, Peshawar, Malakand, Abbottabad, and Nowshera, rain and high winds are predicted.
Additionally, there is a chance of rain and strong winds in districts like Charsadda and Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The spokesperson added that there is a chance of heavy rain along with thunder and lightning in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Sialkot.
The NDMA has issued a warning about the possibility of landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir’s mountainous areas.
Because of the increased risk posed by extreme heat, monsoon rains, and a westerly weather system, the NDMA has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (Glof) alert for northern areas.
Extreme heat and continuing monsoon activity could make glacial lake outbursts more likely, the alert said. Such occurrences might result in flash flooding, harm bridges and roads, and interfere with connectivity.
Both locals and visitors have been cautioned to heed local authorities’ instructions and to stay away from glaciers, lakes, and riverbanks.
Additionally, residents have been asked to notify local authorities right away of any anomalous water flows or obvious glacier changes.
