Actress Neeru Bajwa has reportedly unfollowed her Sardaar Ji 3 co-star, Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, on Instagram and has removed all related promotional content from her social media handles.
This move reportedly follows rising backlash in India over the casting of a Pakistani actor in the Punjabi-language horror-comedy, which also features popular singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh.
Although neither Neeru Bajwa nor Hania Aamir has issued a formal statement, insiders believe Bajwa’s actions are likely in response to mounting criticism and pressure from right-wing groups.
Many Indian online critics accused her of “betraying national sentiment” for collaborating with a Pakistani actress, particularly in the wake of heightened tensions after a recent deadly attack in Pahalgam.
Separately, Gunbir Singh Sidhu, the film’s producer, stated that the decision not to release the movie in Indian cinemas was made voluntarily. “There was no directive from the Government of India or any authority,” he explained. “However, considering the current atmosphere, we chose not to release the trailer in India or conduct promotional activities.”
Meanwhile, the Film Federation of Western Indian Cinema (FWIC) has urged authorities to revoke Diljit Dosanjh’s passport due to his involvement in the project—a move that has drawn criticism from free speech advocates and fellow artists.
Despite the controversy, Sardaar Ji 3, directed by Amar Hundal, is set for a wide international release, including in Pakistan. The film marks Hania Aamir’s debut in Indian Punjabi cinema and is being promoted extensively in overseas markets like Canada and the UK, home to large Punjabi-speaking audiences.
Overall, as of Friday afternoon, Hania Aamir has kept promotional content related to the film on her social media, while Neeru Bajwa’s profiles now show no sign of the project—fueling further speculation and public interest.
