The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) posted the revised syllabus for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2025 on its official website on Thursday, which would be the guiding framework for the next exam.
The new syllabus covers five major subjects – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, and Logical Reasoning – with emphasis on conceptual knowledge and logical reasoning.
The PMDC invited prospective students to start preparing themselves according to the newly released curriculum syllabus.
The last date of the MDCAT tests was expected to be issued in a few days after consultation with admitting universities. The tests are expected to be conducted on either the last Sunday of September or the first Sunday of October 2025.
The test will have a total of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) — divided as 15% easy, 70% moderate, and 15% hard. These would be completed in three hours, a statement said, while outlining the format, weightage, and levels of difficulty for the test. “No negative marking will be applied.”
As per the statement, candidates should obtain at least 55% marks to become eligible for admission in medical colleges and 50% marks to get admitted in dental colleges.
Earlier, the Federal Ministry of Health has ordered the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to end the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
The decision was in response to the widespread complaints regarding irregularities in the MDCAT examination.
Following the discussion within the Senate Standing Committee on Health, Dr. Malik Mukhtar, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator suggested implementing an IT-based solution to address this issue.
The Senate Standing Committee expressed deep concerns about the integrity of the MDCAT process.
Dr.Malik emphasized the need for a more reliable testing system, for instance, the American SAT or the Cambridge assessment framework should start next year.
