As Pakistan and India trade nuclear safety accusations, IAEA confirmed to BBC Urdu “no radiation leakage or incident detected” at Pakistan’s nuclear facilities.
The problem arose after unsubstantiated reports surfaced in Indian media that claimed Indian aircraft had targeted Pakistan’s Kerana Hills, which are said to house a nuclear missile arsenal.
“Based on available data, no radiation leakage or incident has been detected at any nuclear site in Pakistan,” the IAEA told the British broadcaster amid the media rumors.
Additionally, the Indian Air Force denied hitting any nuclear-related facilities.
At a news briefing earlier, Indian Air Marshal AK Bharti was questioned about the veracity of claims of a strike on the nuclear plant in Kirana Hills.
He mockingly remarked, “Thank you for telling us that there is a nuclear facility there—we didn’t know,” adding, “regardless of what is or isn’t there, we did not target Kirana Hills.”
Days after agreeing to a ceasefire after days of escalation, India and Pakistan exchanged allegations on Thursday of mishandling nuclear weapons.
Pakistan reacted forcefully, describing the comments as “provocative” and intended to damage the legitimacy of its nuclear deterrent.
