According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), it had endeavored to intensify its crackdown on individuals of dual nationality as a sign of decisive action to eliminate corruption.

FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial pointed out that the culture of integrity is also being aggressively promoted in the institution and that the Prime Minister issued clear instructions that no abuse of authority can be suffered in any case.

Minister of State Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani, addressing a joint press conference with the chairman of FBR said the last financial year was characterized by better economic performance.

He attributed the reduction in inflation especially the high rates experienced to measures put in place by the government and termed the IMF program as the source of sustained economic stability.

Kayani confirmed that there had been achieving of revenue targets without the launching of a mini budget, showing a 26 percent growth in FBR collections and the stabilization of foreign exchange reserves.

He restated the government commitment in attainment of its economic targets in the new financial year.

He also noted main relief measures to be covered in the budget such as increase of tax slabs of salaried individuals and allocation of Benazir Income Support Programme has gone up in the current budget to Rs. 616 billion against the Rs. 592 billion in the previous budget and targeted growth of export-led economy.

Chairman Langrial observed that the FBR is in the practice to be open 24/7 to all the taxpayers and re-established that the institution has zero tolerance to such misuse of authority.

At this, he said that questionable officers are currently put under the spotlight and sophisticated technology is used so that more money is collected.
