A rare moment of humility from a political figure has taken social media by storm, as Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub Khan was spotted helping a taxi driver fix a punctured tire in the capital’s Red Zone earlier today.
The incident, captured in a video widely shared across digital platforms, shows the senior politician stepping out of his vehicle to lend a hand to the stranded driver. The spontaneous act of kindness drew praise from users online, many commending the opposition leader’s down-to-earth gesture.
Omar Ayub, the grandson of Pakistan’s former president Field Marshal Ayub Khan, has had a long and varied political career. Beginning his journey in public service in 2002 under the banner of PML-Q, he later held the post of Minister of State for Finance during Shaukat Aziz’s administration.
After switching allegiance to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2018, Ayub secured a seat in the National Assembly from NA-17 (Haripur) and was entrusted with significant portfolios, including the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Economic Affairs during Imran Khan’s tenure as Prime Minister.
Despite the political turbulence that followed PTI’s fall from power in 2022, Ayub remained active within the party ranks, assuming the role of Secretary-General in mid-2023. He stepped down from that position in June 2024 to concentrate fully on his duties as Leader of the Opposition.
The latest episode of civic compassion has added a personal touch to the veteran lawmaker’s public image, reinforcing a message of empathy and responsibility in public service.
