Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Junaid Akbar has officially told SAMAA TV that he has resigned from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but the National Assembly Secretariat still hasn’t received a formal communication on the issue.
While talking to SAMAA TV, Junaid Akbar asserted, “I have resigned. I informed Barrister Gohar.”
He further stated that he had also asked Barrister Gohar to take the approval of PTI’s founding chairman Imran Khan on the issue.
“I have not been formally asked to resign yet,” he explained, going on to say that he did not wish to give the impression that being in the role was of personal importance to him.
Sources had previously suggested that Imran Khan had asked Mr. Akbar to resign as chair of the PAC, with the message said to have been passed on through the party leader’s sister, Aleema Khan.
Though development took place, an official resignation had not been received, according to a spokesperson for the National Assembly Secretariat.
“There is a proper procedure for resignation and accepting the resignation of any member or committee chairman,” said the spokesperson.
He added further “The Secretariat will update the Speaker once any progress has been made in this regard.”
