Pakistan and Azerbaijan have decided to increase cooperation in trade as well as investment.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday met with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.
The two leaders agreed to promote their cooperation in trade and investment while appreciating the progress made on the investment opportunities during the meeting.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen the economic cooperation, particularly Azerbaijan’s investment in Pakistan.
The prime minister is traveling to Azerbaijan to head Pakistan’s delegation at the 17th ECO Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, on 3-4 July, 2025.
On the margins of the Summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had a fruitful bilateral meeting with the President of Azerbaijan during which he appreciated him for successfully hosting the 17th ECO Summit in a befitting manner.
The prime minister also expressed his deep appreciation to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan for the warm hospitality shown to him and his delegation upon their recent visit to Lachin, Azerbaijan, from May 27-29, 2025.
The prime minister appreciated President Ilham for Azerbaijan’s unwavering solidarity provided to Pakistan in the recent war with India. He informed that Pakistan had also provided steadfast support to Azerbaijan in the face of adversity.
The prime minister reiterated that the recent visits between the leadership of the two nations had contributed towards further strengthening the relationship.
He also extended an invitation once again to President Ilham to visit Pakistan as soon as possible.
