Pakistan has recorded yet another polio case this year taking the number of cases in the country to 14, confirmed by the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC).
The Polio Reference Laboratory refers to an outbreak in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a one and a half year old child has been tested positive with the virus as the most recent case.
The reported cases that were broken down were in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8, Sindh, 4, Punjab, 1 and Gilgit-Baltistan 1.
In the wake of the recent case, the National EOC has already declared that they will soon initiate a special campaign of vaccination in 11 union councils of North Waziristan to curb the viral spread.
Health officials have challenged parents to make sure their children are being immunized in every health campaign using drops. They also stressed that children should be vaccinated periodically in time to guard them against the virus and other avoidable infections.
Pakistan is among few countries around the world where poliovirus still circulates and sustaining vigilance and participation of people is vital to eradicate the disease.
As previously mentioned, Pakistan has already registered more than 60 000 related to the denial of polio vaccines during the anti-polio campaign organized on April 21-27, 2025.
Within the framework of the second round of countrywide polio eradication campaigns in Pakistan, which served to take place on April 2127, 2025, 60906 incidences of polio vaccine refusal were reported.
Sindh recorded the most cases of refusals, 39,073 in total and more than 37,000 of them in Karachi.
In Balochistan, more than 3,500 incidences of rejection of polio vaccine were also registered. The rate of refusing polio vaccine was reported as 0.4 per cent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Punjab and Islamabad also, cases of parental refusal against the anti-polio vaccine were reported.
