Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed that moon for Muharram has been sighted.
According to the announcement, Youm-e-Ashura (10th Muharram) will be observed on July 6 since the first day of Muharram 1447 Hijri falls on June 27 (Friday).
The provincial capitals of Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar hosted zonal sessions of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
To ascertain whether the Muharram 1447 AH moon was sighted, a central committee meeting was conducted in Quetta at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the chairman of the committee, presided over the meeting.
Islamic scholars from different schools of thought attended the meeting, along with representatives from the local district administration and the Meteorological Department.
Speaking following the sighting of the moon for Muharram, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad affirmed that Narowal, Chishtian, and Bahawalnagar had provided reliable moon sighting reports. He pointed out that although most places had cloudy weather, some places had clear skies, which made it possible to see the moon.
Maulana Azad called Muharram a month of great respect and urged the country to observe it peacefully and unitedly, emphasizing its spiritual and historical significance. “We need to encourage Muslim unity and make sure that there is peace during Muharram,” he stated.
