The planned DGMO-level contact between Pakistan and India has been delayed, a news agency said on Monday.

The DGMO-level contact, originally due earlier in the day, is now set to occur later tonight, according to the report.

No reason was given by the authorities for the delay.

India Prime Minister Modi presided over high-level meeting prior to Pakistan and India DGMOs sitting for truce negotiations.

Pakistan Army DGMO was to address Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Indian Army DGMO, according to the ceasefire agreement between the two nations, following US President Donald Trump’s declaration of the cessation of border tension.

The move comes days after Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif in a press conference reiterated that Pakistan was still open to military-to-military channels of communication with India — including DGMO-level talks — was routine procedure to ensure stability along the Line of Control (LoC) and to prevent escalation.

A delicate ceasefire between India and Pakistan, facilitated after a series of top-level military contacts, was holding as of Monday noon, with contact between the two countries’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) later in the day expected, officials confirmed.

Military hotlines between the two countries have since been re-established to handle any future incidents.

At a recent press conference, DG ISPR Major General Ahmed Sharif informed that Pakistan was sincere in utilizing the military-to-military channels of communication, including DGMO talks and stressed restraint and dialogue in the face of high tensions.

The global community is still keeping a close eye on the situation, worried about the threat of renewed fighting in the event of a lack of an enduring diplomatic break-through.
