Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva foiled an Indian attempt at deceiving the UN Human Rights Council on the Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
Exercising the right of reply during ‘Interactive Dialogue on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ Annual Report’ in Geneva on Wednesday, Pakistan’s delegate Muneeb Ahmed rejected Indian allegations, emphasizing that New Delhi had accused Pakistan without proof.
He stated that India had rejected demands for an independent and impartial inquiry and sidestepped global appeals for restraint. The conversation was part of the current session of the UN Human Rights Council.
“Even prior to its own investigation, the authorities in India issued a public appeal for evidence, India ramped up its suppression of the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.” Mr. Ahmed explained.
He said India continues to occupy Jammu and Kashmir along with several other territories, which has sparked numerous movements against its control. He added, “But India is repeating the same tactic of labeling resistance as terrorism to serve its geopolitical motives.”
Settling the Jammu and Kashmir is the central issue to long-term peace and prosperity in South Asia and the strongest protection against future human rights violations, he stated.
The country is prepared to discuss Indian assistance for the threat of terrorism on Pakistan’s western borders, and in contrast with India, “we have the evidence to have a meaningful conversation”, he added.
“Instead of blaming Pakistan or Muslims, we call upon India to return to its non-Hindutva, non-supremacist quest for hegemony, respect the right of self-determination of the people of Kashmir, and most importantly, act like a normal country at peace with itself and its neighbors,” he said.
