Pakistan’s national football team slips to 201st in FIFA rankings after dismal Asian Cup qualifier loss to Myanmar.
This marks one of the lowest points in Pakistan’s football history, placing the team near the very bottom among the 211 FIFA member nations.
Ahead of the 2026 World Cup cycle, FIFA released the updated rankings, which take into account the team’s growing on- and off-field difficulties and ongoing winless streak. Following this most recent decline, Pakistan is now the lowest-ranked footballing nation in South Asia, trailing only India (133), Bangladesh (184), Nepal (176), Afghanistan (172), Bhutan (186), and Sri Lanka (196).
Since its unexpected victory over Cambodia, the national team has not recorded a single competitive victory since rejoining international football after years of administrative turmoil and suspension. The team has now lost eight straight games under current head coach Stephen Constantine, which raises serious concerns about the tactical direction and future development of the sport in the nation.
On the other hand, other South Asian teams have mostly been able to stay above the crucial 200-mark, even though they are also facing their own difficulties.
India still leads the region in 133rd place, despite its recent downturn. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, moved up four spots from its previous position to become the only South Asian team to improve in the current window.
Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, and Argentina continue to hold the top five spots in the rankings worldwide.
South Korea (57th) continues to be the most reliable Asian World Cup participant, having qualified for the competition nine times, while Australia (36th) is the only country from the Asian continent to be listed in the top 50.
