The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has developed a strategy to modernize the medical education and delivery of daily healthcare by providing a globally aligned Continuous Professional Development (CPD) system.
This is the biggest development in the field after a group of experts of the U.S-based Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) paid a strategic visit to Islamabad, where it held talks with PMDC officials.
The participants of 12 working sessions held in 2 days and a half were the experts working in the most influential institutions based in Pakistan.
The idea of the initiative is to introduce a systematic, evidence-based system of CPD in which medical professionals will be sufficiently qualified and well-informed all through their careers.
The sessions were guided by PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj and ACCME President Dr. Graham McMahon where they emphasized on global best practices.
ACCME delegation also met the national health services minister Syed Mustafa Kamal who has fully supported the project.
PMDC believes that the reform will regulate medical education in Pakistan as well as it will provide a consistent care to patients and also increase the recognition and global employability of the Pakistani health practitioners.
Dr. Taj said, It is a revolutionary step of changing healthcare in Pakistan. PMDC believes in facilitating lifelong learning and professional leadership with all the national and international stakeholders.
New CPD system is likely to increase the standards of care much and restore the trust of people.
