Pakistan’s IT and telecom sectors sustained growth momentum in FY2024- 25, reflecting resilience, according to the government’s Economic Survey.
Despite global economic concerns, the poll found that IT exports hit $2.825 billion, indicating the sector’s increasing significance in the national economy.
Additionally, $400 million in remittances from freelancers provided a substantial rise.
With Rs803 billion in income, the telecom industry made a significant economic contribution.
The study also revealed a significant rise in the number of internet users, with 199.9 million telecom subscribers overall and 147.2 million broadband subscribers.
However, according to official sources, Pakistan has set aggressive trade and economic targets under the Annual Development Plan for the fiscal year 2025–2026.
These objectives include increasing exports, streamlining imports, and maintaining a sustainable current account deficit.
According to budget proposals, $44.9 billion has been set as the objective for both goods and services exports in the upcoming fiscal year, with $35.3 billion going to goods exports and $9.6 billion going to services.
The government has set a target of $65.2 billion for imports of commodities and $14 billion for imports of services, which means that overall import volume is far larger than export volume.
