The Pakistan Cricket Board has named Azhar Mahmood as the acting red-ball head coach, effective immediately, until the end of his current contract in April 2026.
The PCB said in a statement on Monday that the former assistant coach will remain in the role until the conclusion of his current contract.
Experienced cricket player Azhar Mahmood brings a wealth of knowledge to the position. According to the statement, he is familiar with the tactics and workings of the national team because he was the assistant head coach.
The PCB added that his background goes beyond coaching, citing his successful time in the English county circuit and his illustrious career in international cricket.
“Mahmood’s leadership abilities, tactical acumen, and commitment to the game are demonstrated by his two County Championship titles, which highlight his red-ball credentials,” the statement read.
The PCB is sure that his experience will make a big difference in the team’s future development, performance, and discipline on the global scene.
