The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday started initial talks regarding central contracts for national cricketers for the 2025-26 season.
The current central contracts are in their third and last year; they were agreed in 2023, when Zaka Ashraf was the former chairman of the PCB.
Despite the leadership shift, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not change the financial structure last year, and the future is expected to be similarly stable.
According to insiders, there may be little changes made to the player classifications, but the basic contract structure will stay the same.
Interestingly, for the next contracts, domestic performers who exhibit promise in the developing category can be placed in the D category.
The PCB is anticipated to reveal the new contract holders in October, following the example set last year when contracts were revealed on October 27, with the current cycle of central contracts scheduled to end on June 30.
A tiered system based on performance and experience was reflected in last year’s player distribution, with two in the A category, three in the B category, nine in the C category, and eleven in the D category.
