PDMA shares casualty report after heavy rains, flash floods

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provided casualty information in regard to heavy rainfall and floods in the province.

In the Swat River, due to monsoon rains the Swat River has been overflowing, and the flood situation becomes very severe as per the PDMA. It published a preliminary damage report according to which the landslides and flash floods in Swat have taken 11 lives and caused injuries to 6.

PDMA says that there are four men, three women and four children among the deceased.

The PDMA report also showed that 56 homes have been destroyed by rains and flash floods with 6 homes being destroyed fully and 50 homes partially.

Swat has lost the highest number of lives and property with 11 reported deaths. Trained personnel have been deployed during monsoon and the district administration has been given 136 relief trucks.

The plus is that relief funds worth 450 million rupees have been set aside to deal with victims of flash flooding. Alerts have been issued by PDMA to the administration of Nowshera and Charsadda to be ready of any flood threat.

With 17 people of two families of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab regions drowned in the Fizagat area as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner, 73 people are trapped in the Swat River on flash flooding.

The accidents were on Friday at Fizagat where members of two families were taking breakfast at the riverbank where the water level took a sudden surge washing away the tourists.

The scene was filmed by a viral video, going around social media, with women and children caught in the river, with spectators observing in horror.
