Ramadan has said goodbye and people of Pakistan are celebrating Eid ul Fitr today (Wednesday).
The Central Ruet–e–Hilal Committee has announced the sweet Eid. Shops and markets gained momentum on moon night, though not at a large scale for reasons of high inflation in Pakistan.
Shops in every city and villages had been decorated with lights and catchy displays of cakes and bakes during last days of Ramadan. Almost every home was cleaned up to welcome guests. Families have already set plans for what to be cooked.
The fact is that as the Eid moments are coming nearer, kids particularly became more and more impatient to receive Eidi (money as token of gift for Eid) from elders. Cladding up with new dresses, they then enjoy fast food of their taste and buy toys of their choice. For them in real it is going to be sweet Eid both in respect of sweets and travel to vacation spots.
For many of the people it is going to be a moment to enjoy vacations, watch movies, take rest or visit friends, neighbors and near ones and dear ones. Girls and women apply hair colors and get their hands decorated with new designs of hinna and colorful bangles.
Although food inflation has reduced the buying capacity of the citizens, but even then, everyone wants to make their loved ones happy at this occasion with different styles of greeting such as sending cards, flowers and sweets and cakes.
However when everyone here is busy making arrangements to make the loved ones happy one should not forget about the people of Palestine.
Just imagine that for some 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza this Eid, this will be the first one in history when forces of Israel have taken the lives of more than 33,000 innocent people including children besides injuring more than 70,000 people, according to reports.
Those 2.3 million lives are without food, shelter, medicine and water. Their miseries are rising every moment and the world powers are not taking a step to stop the war. The people of Gaza have no way to celebrate Eid rather they are mourning for their lost ones. At this happy occasion Pakistani nation should morally stand with the people of Palestine.
Equally important for us should be our brave soldiers at boarders at this occasion guarding our nation and land. We should greet our soldiers and their life-giving services and bravery also with regard to fighting against terrorism. Another aspect of our celebrations should be a care of those who will be waiting for some food to feed their children and who like the previous years will remain without new cloths. And last but not the least are those far away from their families and homes be remembered this Eid. Let us make a commitment and resolve to make this happy day a happy moment for everyone around us all.
