The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday approved protective bail for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members Omer Ayub and Faisal Amin, shielding them from arrest in any active cases until December 19.
Justice Waqar Ahmed, who presided over the proceedings, instructed the petitioners to approach the relevant courts for the cases they were aware of.
“Protective bail is granted, but you must proceed to the appropriate forums for further relief,” the judge directed.
The court also highlighted that Omer Ayub is a member of the Judicial Commission and ordered the federal authorities and concerned institutions to compile and submit case details against him.
During the hearing, Ayub requested the court to urge the federation not to file frivolous cases, mentioning incidents as trivial as motorcycle theft. “Every 10 minutes, a new FIR is being lodged,” his lawyer argued.
Ayub also informed the court about being targeted during a recent PTI protest march in Islamabad, claiming he sustained injuries from gunfire. “Despite being attacked, an FIR was registered against me,” he said, seeking additional time to address the cases with the relevant authorities.
Additionally, the opposition leader in the National Assembly accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of assuring that no one would cross into the Red Zone.
He alleged that PTI workers were fired upon indiscriminately, holding the prime minister, the Punjab chief minister, and the Islamabad police chief accountable for the attacks.
The leader also criticized the proliferation of allegedly baseless cases against PTI members and appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to establish a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter thoroughly.
