Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a brief visit to Quetta on Saturday, where he participated in a major tribal assembly focused on tackling the worsening security climate in Balochistan.

As per aviation authorities, the Prime Minister was welcomed at Quetta Airport by Acting Governor Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and other top-ranking officials from the provincial government.

The high-stakes gathering, hosted in the heart of the provincial capital, brought together influential tribal figures, key political stakeholders, members of the cabinet, and legislative representatives from across the region.

Participants of the jirga engaged in discussions centered around strategies to improve the law and order situation, with an emphasis on strengthening inter-agency collaboration and grassroots involvement to curb unrest.

Government insiders shared that Prime Minister Shehbaz held consultations with tribal chiefs and regional leaders, seeking their cooperation to reinforce public safety measures and accelerate local development initiatives.

This initiative forms part of a broader agenda aimed at promoting inclusive governance, with both federal and provincial administrations working jointly to integrate community voices into policy decisions.

In addition to the jirga, the Prime Minister was scheduled to meet survivors of the recent deadly explosion in Sorab. The blast, which caused multiple fatalities and injuries, has heightened anxiety in the region. PM Shehbaz is expected to offer words of solidarity and pledge continued support for the affected families.

Security challenges in Balochistan have intensified in recent weeks, with a spike in violent incidents targeting both civilians and security forces. The federal government has reiterated its commitment to uprooting terrorism through cohesive efforts in partnership with local authorities and tribal entities.
