Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench regarding the reserved seats.
Following the development, the premier expressed his thoughts and congratulated the legal team for their “hard work.”
“The supremacy of law and constitution is upheld,” he declared, adding that the verdict was rendered in accordance with the actual legal interpretation.
He urged the opposition to work with the government and contribute “positively” to the nation’s progress.
Azam Nazeer Tarar, the Federal Law Minister, stated on Friday that independent candidates cannot be given reserved seats until the Supreme Court (SC) has rendered a decision.
“The legal and constitutional position has now been clarified,” Tarar told Samaa TV. He stated, “Today’s decision is a review of the High Court’s earlier ruling.” “A majority of nine judges rendered the decision, and Justice Jamal has maintained his previous position.”
According to Tarar, reserved seats in provincial assemblies would follow the same procedure. He declared, “Legal decisions must be made on a constitutional basis.”
