Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Azerbaijan to attend the 17th Summit of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) that began today in Khankendi.
When he arrived, the Minister of Culture Adil Karmali and other top officials of the Azerbaijan government welcomed him warmly.
The summit will also bring the heads of member countries to deliberate on economic growth and coordination in the region.
The delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
The two-day visit is highly significant because Pakistan aims to be a more vibrant entity in regional integration and sustainable progress.
The summit theme is, “New ECO Vision: A Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future,” which focuses on collective action to combat challenges of global climate.
At the summit, PM Shehbaz Sharif is leading the Pakistani delegation and presenting the national concerns of Pakistan regarding crucial regional and international questions.
He will emphasize the commitment of Pakistan to the ECO Vision 2025, which may expand intra-regional trade, energy supply and transport links.
The Prime Minister will also urge the people to work collectively to ensure sustainable and robust economic future of the region.
Shehbaz Sharif will also have bilateral meetings as a leader of ECO member states, besides addressing the summit.
Among the issues of mutual interest that will be discussed during the off-the-record meetings are trade, energy, and diplomatic participation.
The key aim of Pakistan of this visit is to strengthen political ties and improve regional coordination.
The Foreign Office emphasized that the summit would provide an essential opportunity to member states to enhance economic ties and provide a reaction to shared issues.
The summit also welcomes observers and international organizations to enable broader cooperation than networks of ECO nations.
