Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has returned to Islamabad after completing his two-day official visit to Tajikistan, on Friday.
The Prime Minister concluded his tour of Turkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan before arriving back in Pakistan.
As Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif departed from Dushanbe after completing his two-day official visit to Tajikistan, he was seen off at Dushanbe Airport by Tajik Deputy Prime Minister Hakim Khaliqzada.
Prime Minister attended International Conference on Glaciers, Preservation-2025 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan today (Friday).
Speaking at International Conference PM stated that India’s unilateral and illegal act to keep in abeyance the Indus Water Treaty is deeply regrettable.
PM Shehbaz said, “We must not hold millions of lives hostage to narrow political gains.”
In parallel, the PM appealed to an increased global response to reduce the adverse effects of climate change. The PM highlighted that the developed nations need to fulfill their climate related funding obligations on time.
The PM added that ensuring adequate funding for climate-resilient infrastructure and bridging the financing gap remains critically important, and that we need to invest in early warning systems as well as disaster preparedness and management.
Additionally, the Prime Minister mentioned that Pakistan has one of the world’s biggest glaciated regions outside the Polar Region.
He added that glaciers provide almost half of the yearly flow in the Indus Water River system, “the lifeline of our civilization, culture and economy”.
Furthermore, he stated the five great rivers defining our geographical landscape: Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are reliant on stability of glacial system, pointing out that this has made Pakistan one of the most vulnerable nations to any climatic alterations affecting glaciers.
