Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe, on Tuesday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of President Emomali Rahmon.
“The visit is part of regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and Tajikistan,” according to a government statement posted on its official X account.
The two sides will engage in extensive discussions on areas of shared interest to further deepen their bilateral relationship, especially in the areas of regional integration, trade, people-to-people contacts and energy as well as collaboration on multilateral issues, according to the statement.
The prime minister left for Tajikistan earlier today, accompanied by a high-level team that included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, and PM’s special aide Syed Tariq Fatemi.
Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma, Deputy Foreign Minister Farrukh Sharifzoda, and Dushanbe Mayor Jamshid Tabarzada greeted PM Shehbaz upon his arrival at Dushanbe International Airport, according to Radio Pakistan.
Sharifzoda Yusuf, Tajikistan’s ambassador to Pakistan, and his Pakistani counterpart, Saeed Sarwar, were also there to greet him, along with other top government and diplomatic officials.
PM Shehbaz then paid homage to Tajik national hero Ismail Samani by placing a flower wreath at his memorial, according to Radio Pakistan.
