Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued alert for heatwave expected to hit Sindh, especially Karachi, from May 24 till June 1. Alongside, it warned about low-pressure system forming over Arabian Sea which might turn into cyclone soon.
Current system is near India’s west coast and could develop into deep depression or cyclone by May 24 or 25 if conditions stay right. If cyclone forms, it will be called “Shakti,” name given by Sri Lanka meaning “power.”
Meanwhile, meteorologists predict sea breeze will stop temporarily causing sharp rise in Karachi’s daytime temperatures, possibly above 40°C. People living near coast may feel more discomfort due to high heat and humidity, which increases “feels-like” temperature.
Experts say it’s still early to say exactly where system will go, but more clear updates expected soon.
Heatwave will make life harder for Karachi’s people who already face regular power cuts. Sometimes, indoor temperatures get hotter than outside in peak summer, making heat stress worse.
