Former Federal Railway Minister and senior PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique was rushed to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology after he experienced a sudden deterioration in health, sources confirmed.
Doctors at the hospital are performing medical examinations to assess his condition, according to reports.
The medical team is closely monitoring Khawaja Saad Rafique’s health, and they will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Khawaja Saad Rafique is an experienced Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader. Born on 4 November 1962 in Lahore, he has a master’s degree in political science from Punjab University.
Throughout his years of service, he has held many important political positions, among them being Minister for Culture & Youth Affairs in 2008 and the post of Minister for Railways in various governments, his last tenure being from April 2022 to August 2023.
He actively participated in pro-democracy movements and consistently raised his voice for judicial independence. During Musharraf’s regime, authorities jailed him for demanding the reinstatement of ousted judges.
His political rivals assassinated his father, Khawaja Muhammad Rafique — a prominent political activist — in 1972.
Previously, ex-federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique had protested against the merger of the Civil Aviation Ministry with the Defense Ministry.
Khawaja Saad Rafique, who never hesitates in criticizing his own government’s move, has recently critiqued the right-sizing policy of the present government.
In a social media message, Saad Rafique termed the move as disappointing and an inappropriate one that can damage the aviation sector.
