In Lahore, a group of police officers accused of extorting money from call centers have been arrested.
According to media reports four police officers, along with one other individual involved in the extortion racket, have been detained by Lahore police.
Lahore police registered cases of extortion and abuse of power against the suspects.
Police reports state that the officers posed as FIA personnel to extort money from call centers. The suspects forced call center staff to withdraw PKR 300,000 from an ATM and also took five laptops and PKR 250,000 in cash as extortion.
In another case, the group allegedly extorted PKR 500,000 from a digital marketing office in the Civil Lines area.
According to media reports, arrested officers include Shahid, who was posted at Police Lines; Usman, stationed at the Model Town patrol unit; and another officer from Rawail Police Training Center, Farooqabad.
A case has been filed against all the suspects for extortion and misuse of authority.
Civil Lines police recovered PKR 500,000 in cash from the officers. All suspects have been handed over to the Investigation Wing for further inquiry.
