Monsoon Rains: According to the Meteorological Department, the pre-monsoon season will begin on June 22 and the nation will see 25% more rainfall than normal.
According to Irfan Ali Kathia, director general of the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), preparations have been made to handle potential flood scenarios, particularly in low-lying and urban areas.
He declared, “We are ready to handle any emergencies that may come up during the monsoon.”
Concerns about urban flooding and waterlogging are raised by the PDMA, which states that some cities, such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, may receive up to 60% more rainfall than the seasonal average.
The Met Office said a day earlier that this year’s monsoon rains are expected to be 25% more than usual, with August probably seeing the most rainfall and cloud cover.
According to Kathia, every preparation has been made to handle the expected high rainfall and possible flooding throughout Punjab.
In order to reduce damage and maintain public safety, he promised that early warnings would be sent out in important cities like Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad.
Urban flooding and cloudburst risk were given particular attention.
To handle such extreme weather events, the chief meteorologist and the DG PDMA decided to work together to create a thorough response plan.
