Protesters call for justice: "Sana Yousaf killed by toxic mindset"
TwitterFacebook

Islamabad Press Club saw a large number of protestors on Thursday demanding justice for TikToker Sana Yousuf, who was allegedly a victim of gender-based violence.

The attendees chanted slogans and held placards, demanding that the offender be severely punished.

One demonstrator referred to media narratives that frequently place the blame for victims’ deaths on their online personas.

He added, “Sana was not killed by TikTok, but by a toxic mindset and dangerous ideology.”

Another said, “Is it a crime that she was killed because she refused to meet someone?”

Farzana Bari, a well-known human rights advocate, spoke to the audience and denounced the rising amount of violence against women in Pakistan.

“Women are killed every day just for being women,” she stated.

“Gender-based violence affects one in three women in this nation. When will it be over?

Bari urged the government to enact stringent laws to safeguard women and called for the resolution of all cases of gender-based violence within six months.

“The state needs to accept accountability. “In their homes, on the streets, and online, women are not safe,” she continued.

Additionally, demonstrators drew attention to the broader problem of femicide and urged the legal system and law enforcement to expedite Sana Yousuf’s case.
