Amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reportedly prepared a list of top Pakistani YouTubers accused of initiating hate campaigns against the state and military leadership.
Sources from the PTA claim that the agency has forwarded appeals to the federal government requesting them to give immediate clearance for blocking and closing down these YouTube channels running in Pakistan.
The action is part of a larger initiative to rein in content considered harmful to national security and public order in the midst of the diplomatic tension.
Some of the supposedly listed personalities include popular figures like Imran Riaz, Sabir Shakir, Siddique Jan, and Shahbaz Gill. PTA has already acted by blocking Ahmed Noorani and Waqar Malik’s channels inside Pakistan.
Yet, the ban is yet to receive formal government approval to go ahead and block the other channels listed.
The PTA has forwarded the compiled data, identifying individuals alleged to have distributed anti-army propaganda, to YouTube’s administration for further action.
