The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has headed to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) with a petition seeking contempt of court proceedings against District Administration Islamabad.
The petition was filed after the Chief Commissioner Islamabad suspended the No Objection Certificate (NOC) that allowed the PTI to hold its public gathering today in the federal capital. This NOC was earlier issued to PTI after the court ordered it.
The PTI says to organize this show anyway stating this act of the district administration was a political victimization of the PTI, but it will not work. The chief commissioner of Islamabad suspended this NOC due to security concerns and the sensitive situation during the month of Muharram. A high-level meeting was held yesterday to review the security situation. Police parties and civil societies were invited to attend this meeting but no PTI representative joined it, said the chief commissioner’s office yesterday.
The meeting reviewed the applications submitted to the DC office related to holding the rally and reconsidered the permission granted by the deputy commissioner in light of the current security concerns. The meeting decided to suspend the NOC made to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property, saying the administration was committed to maintaining law and order this month.
After the NOC was suspended, the Islamabad Police raided the PTI’s rally venue and removed the stage containers, barbed wire, and other equipment. The police said the venue was being cleared after the NOC had been canceled. The Islamabad administration has said that no arrests have been made so far, but strict legal action will be taken if anyone tries to take the law into their own hands.
On the other hand, the PTI has reached the IHC with a petition seeking contempt of court proceedings against the responsible. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Leader of the Opposition Umar Ayub with other parliamentary members of the party filed this petition. It is important to note that rallies from KP are on the way to join this gathering.
