Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has revoked Sher Afzal Marwat’s basic membership due to severe breaches of party discipline, according to PTI social media.
The announcement was made by PTI’s additional secretary general, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, who attributed the decision to Marwat’s violations of party rules.
A four-member committee had been established to investigate Marwat’s actions and controversial statements.
Last month, Marwat received a show-cause notice but his response was deemed unsatisfactory by the committee.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar responded to the news, expressing his surprise at the decision.
He stated he was unaware of Marwat’s membership cancellation and planned to discuss the matter with PTI founder Imran Khan.
Gohar mentioned that he did not know who had authorized the decision.
Gohar criticized the process, noting that Marwat was not given a chance to respond to the committee.
He committed to meeting with Imran Khan to potentially reverse the decision, affirming Marwat’s loyalty to the party and to Khan.
