ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was detained on Saturday just hours after he vowed to challenge any delay to election in the courts.
The twice Pakistan’s foreign minister was arrested from his residence in Islamabad by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in what is being reported in the cipher case, launched after the PTI chairman Imran Khan claimed that it carried evidence that a plan had been hatched to topple his government.
Earlier in the day, Qureshi addressed to a press conference and came hard on the authorities for inhumane action against the party leaders and their families.
He also spoke about elections, saying no delay in the polls will be tolerated. He also vowed to move the court if the elections are delayed beyond the 90 days.
The PTI chairman is currently jailed for three years after being convicted on graft charges in the Toshakhana case and is barred from contesting any election for five years.
