As tensions escalated between India and Pakistan in a recent border flare-up, many public figures in Pakistan quickly voiced their support for the country, condemning India’s actions.
However, the noticeable absence of any statement from popular singer Atif Aslam sparked criticism from fans and social media users.
While Atif has long maintained a reputation for steering clear of political commentary, his silence during the crisis did not sit well with many of his admirers.
Unlike several celebrities who promptly rallied behind national sentiment, Atif chose not to comment during the height of the conflict.
It was only after a ceasefire was declared that he posted a clip of his patriotic anthem “Kabhi Parcham Main Lipte Hain” on Instagram, accompanied by a message reflecting pride in Pakistan.
The post, however, failed to earn widespread appreciation. A wave of backlash followed, with many questioning the timing of the gesture.
Social media platforms quickly filled with disapproving comments.
Some accused the singer of prioritizing his international career over national allegiance, while others doubted the sincerity of his patriotic music.
“Now that everything’s calm, you remember the country?” one comment read. Another user lamented, “Your silence was louder than your song.”
