Another public holiday has been announced for Karachi on Thursday, June 19, on the occasion of the annual Urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced on Monday.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced a public holiday in the metropolis on Thursday to celebrate the Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi.
According to an official notification issued by Senior Director of Human Resources Management (HRM), all KMC offices will remain shut on that day.
A notification from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) declared a local holiday on Thursday, 22nd Zill-Hajj, 1446 A.H., June 19, 2025, to celebrate the annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (R.A.).
The City Council of Karachi is declaring the holiday under Council Resolution No. 594, dated 27th January 2005.
According to the notice, KMC will close all offices on this day except those providing essential services.
People observe the Urs of the great saint with traditional fervor every year, celebrating with qawwali and milad.
Individuals from various parts of the port city, interior Sindh and other parts of the country travel long distances to participate in the Urs processions out of great affection and regard for the saint.
Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi was a Sufi saint and was born in 109 Hijri. He arrived in Karachi during the Umayyad Dynasty in 1938 Hijri, and since then, his followers have known him.
