Lahore witnessed an unexpected visit from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday as she toured multiple parts of the city amid continuous downpours to personally assess the water drainage situation.
Sources indicate that the Chief Minister made stops at key locations including Gaddafi Stadium, Zahoor Elahi Road, Jail Road, Gulberg, and surrounding areas, where she examined how efficiently rainwater was being cleared from the streets.
While inspecting the infrastructure near Gaddafi Stadium, she expressed contentment with the newly developed drainage network, highlighting that the system—completed within eight months—has proven both reliable and effective. She credited the timely water clearance to the dedicated efforts of the concerned departments, saying the smooth drainage was made possible with Allah’s blessings and the teamwork of field staff.
Her visit extended to several blocks in Gulberg, where she reviewed progress on the Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) Sustainable Development Project. The Chief Minister took note of the aesthetically laid tough tiles, upgraded sewerage infrastructure, and other improvements aimed at enhancing the visual appeal of the area.
Additionally, she acknowledged the successful elimination of illegal structures from residential and commercial zones in Gulberg and appreciated the organized landscaping of green belts and the uniformity in development work.
The Chief Minister also toured ongoing urban beautification initiatives along Fashion Avenue, Zahoor Elahi Road, College Road, and Sir Syed Road. She instructed the responsible departments to ensure strict adherence to quality standards throughout these projects.
