In a significant move to revive underutilized public education facilities, Punjab’s School Education Department is set to bring several long-neglected government schools back into operation.
Educators previously assigned to institutions handed over to private entities will now be repositioned within these reactivated schools.
According to Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat Khan, the plan involves reallocating more than 26,000 instructors to approximately 1,961 public schools across the province.
Instead of hiring new employees, the department aims to balance workforce distribution by transferring personnel from overstaffed campuses to those with teacher deficits.
Minister Hayat emphasized that nearly 44,000 teaching positions had become redundant due to the earlier policy of outsourcing.
“Despite the schools being functional for years, no appointments had been made. This initiative brings a fresh start, with 15 to 20 additional schools now active in every tehsil of Punjab,” he remarked.
He further clarified that the entire process utilizes the current roster of educators, avoiding any new employment drive.
Approval for the plan was granted by the provincial finance division, paving the way for the School Education Department to implement this strategic reshuffle.
