A protest by visually-impaired individuals in Lahore escalated into a clash with Punjab police.
Visually handicapped individuals set a protest to demand for government jobs as per the reserved quota on The Mall road in Lahore, on Tuesday.
During the protest the demonstrators attempted to march towards the Chief Minister’s House. This protest turned chaotic when the Punjab police stopped the protesters near Lawrence Garden .
This clash was further fueled when the protesters tried to remove barriers set up by the police. Despite the efforts to block their way, the determined protesters refused to back down and continued their sit-in near the Governor’s House.
The situation became worst when police stopped the protesters forcefully, resulting in several injuries.
To tackle the situation police deployed more personnel on Mall Road. Security forces blocked the roads of both routs leading to the Governor’s House and the Chief Minister’s House.
The visually-impaired protesters have vowed to maintain their demonstration until their demands for government jobs are fulfilled.
Authorities are attempting to negotiate with the demonstrators, but tensions remain high as no resolution has been reached.
