Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly denounced the recent military actions by the United States and against Iran, labeling them as “groundless, unjustifiable, and illegitimate” during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow.
Calling the attacks “unprovoked aggression”, Putin stated they violate international norms and emphasized that no justification can legitimize such actions. He reaffirmed Russia’s support for the Iranian people and underlined the importance of resolving the growing crisis through diplomatic channels.
“Your visit gives us an opportunity to address these urgent developments and seek a path forward together,” Putin told Araghchi at the Kremlin.
Foreign Minister Araghchi, who arrived in Moscow on Monday, described the visit as vital for “closer and more serious consultations” with Russia following U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure over the weekend. He expressed gratitude to President Putin for publicly condemning the attacks and commended Russia for “being on the right side of history.” He also conveyed greetings from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Meanwhile, China also expressed alarm over the situation, warning that the conflict threatens to destabilize the region and disrupt the global economy. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun called on the international community to step up efforts to de-escalate tensions, cautioning against the dangerous “spillover of war.”
“The Gulf and surrounding waters are crucial global trade corridors,” Guo noted, urging all sides to avoid further escalation and return to diplomatic negotiations.
“China urges the international community to intensify efforts to prevent regional unrest from impacting global economic growth.”
With tensions escalating in the aftermath of the U.S. and Israeli strikes, both Russia and China are taking a firm stand in calling for restraint and advocating peaceful resolutions to avoid a broader regional conflict
