Liauqt Ali Chatta, the Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division, resigned from his position on Saturday in protest over electoral rigging.

Chatta announced his resignation during a press conference today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

He accepted responsibility for the “rigging” that occurred in Rawalpindi Division.

“We have a 70,000 vote buffer to turn the losers into winners. He said, “I did injustice to the people of Rawalpindi Division,” and turned himself up to the authorities.

He claimed that he was under so much “pressure” that he considered suicide today, but ultimately decided to bring issues to the public.

He said, “I want the bureaucracy as a whole to do nothing wrong for all these politicians.”

He told reporters, “I am taking responsibility for all of this wrongdoing and telling you that the chief justice and the chief election commissioner are also completely involved in this.”

Serious allegations of electoral misconduct have been exposed by Chattha’s resignation and remarks that followed, raising doubts about the fairness of the election process.

There have been calls for a comprehensive inquiry over all and political parties are demanding an investigation into the matter which has raised questions about the integrity and fairness of the elections in the area.
