A tragic incident unfolded in Rawalpindi when the body of a female schoolteacher, who had booked an online cab to reach her workplace, was found in a stormwater drain. The cab driver, however, is still missing under mysterious circumstances.
The victim was identified as Anum Bashir, a resident of Afshan Colony in Rawalpindi and originally from Malakwal in Mandi Bahauddin. She worked at a private school in Islamabad. According to police, Anum’s body was discovered near Bhosa Godown following heavy rainfall that caused severe flooding.
Reports indicate that Anum had booked a ride through an online cab service on Wednesday morning. As the vehicle passed through Lane 4 of Range Road—an area affected by flooding from an overflowing storm drain—it is suspected the car was swept away by the strong water current.
Her body was later recovered from a drain near Bhosa Godown. Meanwhile, the car was found wedged in a narrow street close to another drain in the Westridge locality. The driver, identified as Hasnain, has not been located.
Authorities have contacted the car’s registered owners, who confirmed that Hasnain was using it as a ride-hailing driver. An investigation is ongoing, and search efforts for the missing driver continue.
Anum’s family identified her body at the hospital but chose not to file a formal police complaint or request a post-mortem examination.
